A New Strategic Plan for AFP in Canada

In March, the AFP board of directors approved a new strategic plan for 2014-2016 with four overarching goal areas. They are:
- Inclusion and Influence
- Advocacy, Policy & Ethics
- Relevant Quality Education
- Capacity to Invest in Opportunity.

During the recent Canadian Leadership Retreat, chapter representatives had the opportunity to participate in a facilitated strategic planning process to help determine priorities for AFP in Canada over the next three year period. The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada went through the same exercise the day before.
Some of the areas that were identified during that day of planning include:
- Evolve the Canadian governance model to respond to current realities and future needs.
- Develop a Pan-Canadian multifaceted communications strategy including: branding, marketing, government relations and public relations.
- Review/renew the infrastructure to best support Canadian chapters and Pan-Canadian initiatives.
- Build capacity for chapter-level advocacy and promotion.
- Establish a chapter resiliency model which includes succession planning, governance and operations.
- Increase chapter membership engagement.
A Strategic Planning Task Force has been created to look at the results of the discussion and determine a new plan for Canada. The task force will be chaired by Karen Dackiw, CFRE and the members are: Kathy Arney, CA, Giovanni Festa-Bianchet, MBA, Derek Fraser, CFRE, Laura Mikuska, Ligia Pena, CFRE, Ellen Townshend and Karen Willson, CFRE.
Next steps will see the task force delving into each area to create a plan addressing each of the strategic objectives.
