The Challenge and Opportunity:
Goshen Health Foundation is preparing to undertake a major capital campaign, it's first campaign since the early 1980s.  The Foundation has completed a Feasibility Study conducted by an outside firm and is preparing to raise $10 million or more as part of a larger $90 million project.  Funds will be used to:  replace older hospital facilities with 108 modern patient rooms, renovate and expand a nationally regarded Center for Cancer Care, and equip all of our facilities with state-of-the-art medical technology.

The Community:
Goshen Health is located in Goshen, Indiana and serves a four county service area with over 300,000 residents focusing on north central Indiana centering on Elkhart County.  This county has been nationally heralded for its dynamic local economy and boasts one of the lowest unemployment rates in the United States.  Elkhart County produces over 60% of all recreational vehicles in the entire country.

In addition, the community is well known for its generosity and is both highly philanthropic and entrepreneurial.

The city of Goshen is almost 200 years old and has a vibrant downtown.  Goshen features affordable housing and an excellent quality of life within an hour's distance from communities on Lake Michigan, two hours from Chicago, and three hours to Indianapolis.  Goshen is an excellent place to live, to work, raise a family and also features high quality schools.

Position Overview

The Vice President of Goshen Health Foundation and Campaign Director will dramatically elevate the culture of philanthropy at Goshen Health and to make us one of the premiere nonprofits in Elkhart County.

The person is expected to be a highly visible leader in the community promoting the inclusion of Goshen Health in the giving priorities of individuals, corporations and foundations within the area, as part of a major capital campaign.  This is an excellent opportunity for a person who is a self-starter, goal focused, proactive and wants to quickly develop a track record of significant success conducting a major capital campaign.  Vice President of Goshen Health Foundation and Campaign Director will lead the Foundation team and report to the Goshen Health Hospital President & CEO and work directly with Foundation Board.  The person will also work closely with the capital campaign consultant.  The person must be decisive with the ability to motivate and inspire Board members, campaign volunteers and staff to support the capital campaign.  The short-term goal is to successfully conduct the capital campaign while building a significant and dynamic, long-term philanthropic base for the future.

Position Qualifications

Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Education
Master's Degree

Minimum Experience

  • 10 or more years of successful fundraising experience, including major gift solicitation, and campaign experience (or related experience)
  • Demonstrated track record of soliciting major gifts and capital campaign success
  • Confident self-starter who can call on and engage high net worth prospects
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work well with volunteers and lead them to success
  • Ability to communicate medical information in lay terms
  • Highest integrity with a strong sense of personal and professional ethics
  • The selected candidate must also be a collaborative team player who can inspire others
